Kevin And Don Respond To Being Self Loathing
Looking back at their journey from the Stonewall Democratic Club to Log Cabin Republicans, they claim it was one that was actually started by the democrats. After being told that marriage as not a priority on the agenda in 1995, they became disillusioned with the DEMS. For a decade they felt like they did not belong until they met the republicans of the Log Cabin Republican Club and discovered they too shared a dream of marriage equality. This blog is now a digital time capsule of their time as Republicans and moderated by a friend and supporter.

Kevin and Don - July 7, 2008
Kevin and Don, of Hollywood, were high school sweethearts and have been together since June of 1978.
Kevin and Don met in 10th grade and quickly became best friends in the 1977-78 school year. By June of that year, they ventured from their suburban homes in New Jersey to the big city, New York, and saw their first play together, Annie.
The couple eventually moved to Hollywood, California and registered as California Domestic Partners in 2004. They decided to take one last name for the both of them. The couple, however, never purchased rings nor had a commitment ceremony because they always wanted a real wedding. On May 15, 2008, the day the California Supreme Court ruled in favor of same-gender couples, Kevin and Don went to Tiffany's for wedding rings. Then they went to the Bel Air hotel to celebrate and begin planning for a Cape Cod Wedding on July 7th.
Kevin and Don plan a small wedding with only close friends and their east coast families in attendance. The parents are best friends and have rented a house in Cape Cod for the event.
With the Supreme Court's ruling in jeopardy of being overturned at the ballot box, they decided to forego accepting any gifts. Instead, Kevin and Don are asking their friends and family to contribute to HRC to help defeat the marriage initiative. The couple believes like Governor Schwarzenegger, "that California people are much further along with that issue."
Kevin and Don express hope and optimism concerning the vote and enthusiastically express the view that it is their dream to have a Cape Code wedding. They find romance in the entire Cape Cod wedding process and their mothers even went shopping for their dresses together.
Kevin and Don are happy to be giving their parents the wedding they always wanted for their sons -- a wedding where their child is happy and is marrying the person of his dreams. Kevin and Don are also grateful to HRC. "We are close friends of George Takei and Brad Altman and were there for them in 2005 when George granted his first interview discussing his personal life with Brad. We were so proud of them and thankful that HRC was there too. We can't imagine a more fitting tribute to them and everyone who will be exchanging vows in the next few months than to ask our friends and family to donate to HRC to help keep our marriages protected," said Kevin and Don.
