"There's a difference between acceptance and endorsing. There's a difference between tolerating and acceptance. They're all degrees," - KevinAndDon.
This is now an archival blog (2006 - 2012) Kevin and Don entered this century with a motto, "Providing the spark for the millennium and beyond." Prop 8 was only part of the equation. This is the story of their involvement in Log Cabin Republicans from 2006 to 2012. They believed that they could change the world. Did they?
Kevin And Don Respond To Being Self Loathing
Looking back at their journey from the Stonewall Democratic Club to Log Cabin Republicans, they claim it was one that was actually started by the democrats. After being told that marriage as not a priority on the agenda in 1995, they became disillusioned with the DEMS. For a decade they felt like they did not belong until they met the republicans of the Log Cabin Republican Club and discovered they too shared a dream of marriage equality. This blog is now a digital time capsule of their time as Republicans and moderated by a friend and supporter.
The Honorable George H.W. Bush, 41st President of the United States, will lecture at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion on Monday, March 12, 2007, 8:00 P.M. George Bush served as U. S. President from 1989 to 1993. During his term, the Cold War ended; the threat of nuclear war was drastically reduced; the Soviet Union was replaced by a democratic Russia; the Berlin Wall fell and Germany was reunified; Eastern Europe and the Baltic States became free; and he put together an unprecedented coalition of 32 nations to liberate Kuwait, paving the way for Israel and her Arab neighbors to renew the quest for peace in the Middle East. Only the second President to serve a full term without party control in either chamber of Congress, President Bush, nevertheless, signed into law, among other things, the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Clean Air Act, and successfully negotiated the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) which was later signed into law. President Bush has written two books – A World Transformed, co-authored with General Brent Scowcroft and All The Best, a collection of letters.
WASHINGTON — He was going to pardon only one, but President Bush figured he really owed the flightly one's long term parner this time. His dog had just scared the stuffing out of the gay bird. Bush spared "chicken" as he was affectionatly known to former Rep. Mark Foley. The bird has been known for years inside the beltway to be light in his loafers and is appropriately named "Flyer" (Don't Ask, Don't Tell) — during a Rose Garden ceremony on Wednesday. The back door "friend", "Fryer," was also pardoned but was nowhere to be seen on this raw day and "DOMA" was not even discussed. The president explained that his Scottish terrier, Barney, got involved this year. The presidential dog typically gets his exercise by chasing a soccer ball around the Rose Garden. He ("Barney") " came out" Wednesday, as did Flyer," Bush then said. "And instead of chasing the soccer ball, he chased the gay birds." Bush announced that the gay birds would be sent off on a vacation for to Disneyland in California because the two can be recognized as "domestic partners" there (and not Disney World in Florida) and would be the honorary grand marshals of a Thanksgiving Day Parade and then relocate to a coop for two in Gavin Newsom's San Francisco after the mayor of that liberal bastion granted the two sanctury. However, after the trip to Disneyland, this year marks a change when there will be full accceptance of the couple and a ceremony is planned to be held at a notoary public on Fairfax in a stationary shop somewhere by CBS Television City in Hollywood. Bill Maher has been invited but not confirmed if he will be in attendance. Arianna Huffington declined her invitation because she is tired of attending what she views as sham marraiges and will only attend such events when couples are given equal rights under the law. "Barney" never "came out" prior to the event and surprised Bush. Bush was heard off the record to have said; "I thought we fixed that."
The popular ceremony, however, went on as usual and dates to the days of President Harry Truman in 1947 but it was never used as a political statement to pardon of these most fowl gay birds (and slaughting of the straight birds). Perhaps it was Bush's realization about Barney, or Ken really found a heart (assuming that he has one). Just back from a trip to the Cruise-Holms wedding, Bush and his wife Laura will spend the holiday camping it up at Camp David before another international trip early next week to the Baltics and the Middle East so they can avoid the rantings of Madam Pelosi and not have deal with how Cheney is being evicted from his unofficial office in the House side of the Capitol. The Bushes left the White House early Wednesday afternoon and arrived at the presidential retreat. The first family's menu for Thanksgiving includes a menu prepared by their avowed cheif homosexual cooks Karl & Ken, and includes straight free-range roasted turkey flown in from Midland, Texas, ciabatta bread dressing, pumkin zucchini gratin, lashed maple sweet potatoes, basil chive whipped raw red potatoes, and extra non-dairy creamy green pumpkin pie.

Perhaps this is just wishful thinging, but I would love to see the character of Andrew Van De Kamp (Shawn Pyfrom) on Marc Cherry's Desparate Housewives joins a republican group and ask his mom, Bree, if his club can have a pool party at the house. Bree, happy to hear that she at least has something in common with her son, agrees. Bree even caters the event. But when the guests show up, she discovers that the pool party is called, "RED TRUNKS:The Log Cabin Republicans Pool Party".
CENSORED BY CNN: BILL MAHER SUGGESTS RNC CHAIR MEHLMAN IS. . .
Partial transcript of Bill Maher's Live appearance on Larry King Live: BM: A lot of the chiefs of staff, the people who really run the underpinnings of the Republican Party, are gay. I don't want to mention names, but I will Friday night... LK:You will Friday night? BM: Well, there's a couple of big people who I think everyone in Washington knows who run the Republican... LK: You will name them? BM: Well, I wouldn't be the first. I'd get sued if I was the first. Ken Mehlman. Ok, there's one I think people have talked about. I don't think he's denied it when he's been, people have suggested, he doesn't say... LK: I never heard that. I'm walking around in a fog. I never...Ken Mehlman? I never heard that. But the question is... BM: Maybe you don't go to the same bathhouse I do, Larry. When CNN re-aired the interview later that night, they edited out Larry King and Bill Maher's discussion of Mehlman.

Rumor has it that Mario Lopez wore the "RED" shirt under his Tux jacket on the November 7, 2006 episode of Dancing With The Stars to show his support for his party because it was election night. Some believe he outed himself as a REPUBLICAN that night. I wonder? Perhaps? Perhaps Not? I hear that Mario is looking for "friends" on myspace.com.
Soon after Nancy Pelosi became was voted to become the next Speaker of the House. Nancy Pelosi nominated her good friend Rep. John Murth as House Majority Leader. Rep. Steny Hoyer was also nominated and won over Pelosi's hand-picked successor, 149-86. Of Pelosi's endorsement of Murtha, Rep. Barney Frank said, "She's a very smart woman who made an error in judgment." Democrats also selected James Clyburn of South Carolina as majority whip. Rahm Emanuel of Illinois was named as their caucus chair post, the No. 4 position for Democrats. Frank will become chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.
I'm kind of annoyed to still find homosexual stereotypes perpetuated in the media, even if it is by a throw away paper. The November 9th edition of the West Hollywood Independent's front page article "As Acceptance Rises, So Do Stats" written by Lorena Fernandez makes it seem like she has been sleeping for the past 20 years. The opening paragraph is outrageous when one considers the strides the gay and lesbian community has made with the great work of non-profits like GLAAD to educate the public and portray homosexuals in a realistic way. It states "When 12 men dress up as women and run around on what is arguably the most transited street of a city, it is safe to say society is more open minded about homosexuality than it was in the last century". All kidding aside, I think we deserve an appology. To think that the author believes a dozen drag queens running down Santa Monica Boulevard represent acceptance of homosexuality across the nation is ridiculous and patronizing. I ask what this has to do at all with the subject of the ban on same-sex marraige being debated across the country? Oh Please!
On the night of Tuesday, November 7, 2006, an election was held and The California Republic's Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Log Cabin Republicans made history.
The Governor extended an invitation to Jeff Bissiri, Log Cabin's California Director, to join him on the stage when Governor Schwarzenegger gave his victory speech and showed all of California that the governor believes in the large tent of the Republican Party.
Further, “Log Cabin congratulates Governor Schwarzenegger for his re-election victory,” said Jeff Bissiri , Log Cabin’s California Director. “The Governor has reached out to all Californians including the gay and lesbian community. The Governor’s inclusive leadership is a model for other Republicans around the nation. His re-election shows that inclusion wins,” said Bissiri. Since taking office in 2003, Governor Schwarzenegger has signed over 20 bills supportive of the gay and lesbian community including expansion of domestic partnership rights, hate crimes protection, housing and employment non-discrimination laws, improving HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment strategies, and ending the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy in the state militia. The Governor has spoken out publicly against the anti-family Federal Marriage Amendment and has been one of the nation's leading voices advocating for a "Big Tent" Republican Party.
“Log Cabin proudly endorsed Governor Schwarzenegger. Many of our members across the state volunteered on his campaign and provided important financial support for him. We look forward to continuing our support for his efforts to bring people together and build an even brighter future for the state of California ,” said Bissiri. On June 29, 2006, Governor Schwarzenegger was guest of honor at an event to support the work of Log Cabin. He made history as the first Republican governor in California to speak to the gay and lesbian community. In a rousing speech, Schwarzenegger declared that he was "committed to being a Governor for all Californians" and was "proud to stand side by side with Log Cabin in their work to offer basic fairness for gay and lesbian citizens." He went on to say, "A person should only be limited by his dreams and not by his background, and not by his heritage and not by his sexual orientation...We are united in the values of love, tolerance, and understanding? working together we can create a better future for California where everybody matters and every family counts."
Again hats off to Governor Schwarzenegger, Log Cabin Republicans, and especially to Jeff Bissiri for a job well done in upholding the TRUE values of the party of Lincoln.
